Beatrice Dillon at The Barbican

Explore Ensemble presents Beatrice Dillon’s Seven Reorganisations alongside the world premiere of her new work, Where Never, a rare chance to hear her latest music unfold live. Marking a decisive shift from her roots in rhythmic, system-based electronic music, Dillon writes for ensemble and electronics with a fluid, unstable sound rather than a fixed instrumentation.

Alongside Dillon, music by Helmut Lachenmann and Pascale Criton extend this focus on acoustic sound. Lachenmann’s ‘Guero’ deconstructs the piano into a percussive instrument of friction and play, while Criton’s mesmeric guitar duo ‘Trans’ destabilises pitch itself through microtonal haze drift, patterns, and interference.
