Join Explore Ensemble for their debut in Manchester as part of RNCM’s Future Music - a whole day of several performances, talks, and workshops, all dedicated to exploring the futures of music and the roles of technology.

Across three different themed events Explore Ensemble will perform works from their Augmented Instruments project, celebrating recent music for ensemble and live electronics with experimental technology.

The day begins with a workshop and concert including Jonathan Packham’s SECRET ANIMALS, for cello and live electronics, using VR, presented alongside new students works using VR. In focus in the afternoon is Patricia Alessandrini’s work for augmented instruments and live electronics, Tracer la lune d’un doigt, co-commissioned by Explore Ensemble and hcmf// in 2017, and presenting a robotic piano machine, embedded transducers, and live electronics. RNCM PhD composer Zakiya Leeming will present a new work specially composed using the same technology. As part of the final event, Explore’s director Nicholas Moroz presents a new work for piano and electronics using AI-generated sounds, in collaboration with Oxford-based computer scientist, Lewis Smith.

Augmented Instruments continues to Oxford and Leeds on 19 and 20 June.
