Explore Ensemble conclude its ‘Feldman and After’ weekend with two new works and Feldman’s own late duo work ‘Spring of Chosroes’. Lisa Illean brings mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean back with Explore Ensemble in her new work for voice, sextet, and electronics that sets texts by Gerard Manley Hopkins’s The Sea and the Skylark. Laure M. Hiendl’s new sextet obliquely recall’s Feldman’s techniques of extensive repetition at huge scales, though with Hiendl’s entirely singular approach to sonic and cultural deconstruction of quoted musical fragments.
